Holiday Entertainment

By npalazzo — December 03, 2012

Every year, one thing we can look forward to during the holiday season is the release of  great movies. Once again, the line up of movies set to be released in the next month runs from family animated fun to action thrillers and romantic musicals. There is definitely something for everyone. Not sure what to watch, check out some of my top picks.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey  (2012)  Fantasy/Drama

For the hobbit fans, the wait is almost over. In this highly anticipated prequel to Lord of The Rings trilogy,  it follows curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.

Jack Reacher  (2012) Action/Drama

Based on the novels by Lee Childs, Tom Cruise is back in another action film.  After 6 shots and five dead, the cops catch the sniper they believe did it. Claiming his innocence, the accused asks only for one thing: to get Jack Reacher. When the ex-military investigator is brought in, this slam dunk case is shaken up. Knowing a trained sniper would never miss his mark, Reacher digs deeper with much action to follow.

Monsters, Inc. 3D (2001)  Animated Comedy

Some of our favourite monsters from 2001 are back on the big screen and this time in 3D. A great movie to take the children to see, Monsters Inc will have everyone laughing. The synopsis:

Monsters generate their city’s power by scaring children, but they are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children, so when one enters Monstropolis, top scarer Sulley finds his world disrupted.

Les Misérables (2012) Romantic Musical

Adapted from the novel by Victor Hugo, and already an award winning Broadway play, this is set to be one of the biggest musicals in the past decade. As one of my favourite musicals, this is one of my must see movies this season.

Set in 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever.

Parental Guidance (2012) Comedy

Great comedian, Billy Crystal takes the lead alongside Bette Middler in this fun comedy.  Old school grandfather Artie and eager to please wife Diane agree to look after their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents need to leave town for work. Problems arise when the kids’ 21st-century behaviors collide with Artie and Diane’s old-school methods.
