Winter Glam

Winter weather can have a dramatic affect on skin. The chilly wind, cold snow and even the hot showers we take all aide in stripping the skin of moisture and creating dry, flaky skin. With weaker sun rays, we also begin to lose the tan and look pale.  Despite  all these problems, keeping a healthy, gorgeous look during winter is actually easy.

Moisturize : apply with ample drying time before priming/ foundation. Also try night time moisturizer rather than daytime.  It will rehydrate skin after being out in the cold all day and cut back on time for make-up

Primer/Foundations : The key to keeping smooth, soft looking and even toned skin any time of year is to use a primer before applying the foundation. It will even out the skin and help hold your makeup in place for long periods of time.

By mid-fall, many tans have faded away so be sure to put away the summer foundation and get skin toned matched for the paler winter skin.  Lighter, matted foundations are perfect for winter.  Be sure to set it with powder.

Lips : use a moisturizing lip gloss throughout the day will keep lips moist and prevent painful cracking and dryness. You can find tinted ones to add a bit more colour for daytime look.

For evening looks use a matted lipstick and liner. If you want to make your lips the statement piece, Mulberry and Reds are perfect.  If you don’t have a moisturizing lipstick, be sure to apply a lip balm before hand to ensure moisture.

Blush : To keep your face from looking sickly white, be sure to add some colour to your look with a light powdered blush.  Go for light pinks, peaches or terracotta.  Go light for daytime looks, and play it up at night with a deeper colour. Just be sure if you go dramatic on the cheeks, to leave the lips more neutral.

Eyes:  Stick to matte looks, and for really chilly and snowy days, go for waterproof.  You can go dark and dramatic with smoky grey or plum colours or lighter with a softly lined eye and neutral colours.  The great part about winter, is with the paler skin you can play with a wider variety of looks for your eyes.

No matter which look you are going for, be sure to apply an ample amount of mascara on. This will help your eyes stand out and play up your feminine features, even when hidden under toques and hoods!
