Plum Makeup Trend

Though neons and pastels are all the rage right now, sometimes you need a bit of a change. I love lime green as much as the next person, but much of the time lime green eyeliner isn’t suitable for my mood. Plum shades are great direction to take your makeup if you are looking for a nighttime look, a little more drama, or something a bit darker.

Katy Perry was recently seen rocking this vampy, plum shade on her lips at 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Her makeup artist, Todd Delano, revealed the lipstick to be Lancome’s Le Lypstique  in Portelle. Between her dark purple lips and purple hair, Katy Perry’s look offers a more romantic and feminine take on the goth theme. If you want to go with a deep plum lipstick, take some inspiration from Perry’s look and match the dark lips with neutral shadows. Otherwise, if you pair dark lips with a smokey eye you could be going overboard with the dark makeup. Some great plum lipstick products to look into, in addition to Perry’s Lancome color, are NARS Matte Lipstick in Volga and M.A.C’s Lipstick in Rebel.

Another way to rock the plum makeup color trend is by trying out the plum toned smokey eye. This is a great option for those who want to revamp the smokey eye from the usual black and grays. Rachel McAdams is a great example of how this purple smokey eye can give you a sexy, smoldering look without being too over the top. Paired with a nude lip, her look is sophisticated rather than outrageous.

Plum shadow is also one of those great makeup products that looks good on nearly every skin tone and eye color. It highlights both blue and brown eyes. If you are looking for a shade to go along with the plum try some bronze as a highlighter in your inner eyelid. This shadow combination gives a sexy, sultry look with a bit of shimmer. To get this combination check out Make Up For Ever’s Eyeshadow (Matte Dark Purple is a favorite of mine) for their various plum shades and NARS Soft Touch Pencil Shadow in Skorpios, to add the bronze detail.
